Why has progress in batteries been so slow?

Since 1991, the electrode materials used in mobile device lithium ion batteries have not changed. 1991 was also the year that the first web site went online. The internet and advanced mobility age has progressed massively while batteries have not. 

WHat can be done?

While small improvements can be made by slimming the hardware, the best way to improve the energy density in a cell is to change the materials. This is certainly not easy to achieve and does take time. But when achieved, the applications that are enabled can be profound. Envia is leading the industry in developing these next generation materials and batteries.

What Motivates us? 

Oil is a finite resource and will run out, most likely in our children's lifetime. Yet, we have made very few efforts to change our habits and prepare for this fact. What makes it worse is that we are quietly destroying earth's atmospheric conditions, which will lead to catastrophic consequences. Reliance on renewable energy, electric propulsion, and energy storage helps diminish these negative trends.  

As consumption increases, efficient use of resources becomes more important. And as population densities increase, efficient infrastructure development and logistics need to be re-imagined. The utilization of electric drones for everything from internet access to medical supply delivery will be key to developing societies.
